⚙️ OUTBOARDS

EPTechnologies has launched the Falcon electric outboard motor, showcasing innovation in marine propulsion. The Falcon is designed entirely as an electric propulsion system, moving beyond retrofitted combustion platforms. Its compact, lightweight build minimizes drag, improves efficiency, and maximizes space for additional batteries, extending range and performance.

The 130 kW Falcon features an axial flux design, reducing weight significantly. Weighing 27 kg compared to the 117 kg of comparable motors, it is highly efficient and flexible, with an adjustable shaft length. This design suits various vessel types, including leisure yachts, small passenger ferries, rescue boats, and hydrofoils, which see a two-thirds reduction in energy consumption while planing. A more powerful 230 kW version is under development.

The Falcon's re-engineered steering system enhances stability and maneuverability. Only the propeller and its hub rotate, while the motor block remains stationary, protecting engine components and improving performance. The 360° rotating propeller hub offers exceptional control, even in tight spaces, eliminating the need for additional bow thrusters.

EPTechnologies supports the Falcon with its own range of ultra-light, efficient batteries, tailored for vessel-specific needs to optimize weight distribution and performance. This approach ensures the Falcon delivers both high performance and zero emissions, contributing to a more sustainable maritime industry.

⚙️ OUTBOARDS

The Seabird 400X electric outboard engine represents a significant step forward in marine propulsion. Designed to lead the charge in decarbonizing the marine industry, the 400X combines high performance with minimal environmental impact. Seabird’s journey began with the Racebird, the world’s first high-performance electric foiling raceboat. The Racebird proved that thrilling performance and sustainability can coexist. The Seabird 400X builds on that foundation, offering a compact and efficient design that reimagines what is possible in marine technology.

The 400X delivers 400kW of peak power, equivalent to over 530 horsepower, with a continuous power output of 300kW or 400 horsepower. At approximately 200kg, it is 80% smaller and lighter than traditional outboard engines. Its steering angle of more than 45 degrees enhances maneuverability, while its 800V voltage architecture ensures efficient operation. With near-silent performance and an emphasis on reducing the environmental footprint, the 400X makes no compromises in delivering power and precision.

Candela, a Swedish tech company specializing in electric hydrofoil vessels, has partnered with FlyTahoe to introduce the Candela P-12 electric ferry on Lake Tahoe. This marks the first deployment of Candela's technology in the United States. The P-12 ferry, designed to accommodate 30 passengers along with skis and bikes, utilizes hydrofoil technology to lift the hull above water, reducing drag and energy consumption by 80% compared to conventional vessels. Operating at a cruising speed of 25 knots, it offers a 30-minute cross-lake service, effectively halving travel time compared to the daily 20,000 car trips along the same route. This initiative aims to alleviate road congestion and reduce emissions, contributing to the preservation of Lake Tahoe's renowned cobalt-blue clarity.
