🌊 WATERSPORTS

First announced about a year ago, Voltaic Marine is planning to launch a wake surfing boat, the AEW24. This is planned to be a 25 foot boat (made from aluminum), with seating for 18 people. It will feature a 500 HP engine and a 200 kWh battery. They will also offer a dual-stack option that would have 1000 HP - for enhanced power and acceleration.

🛝 RECREATIONAL

Ingenity Electric, this past week, announced the launch of their Marine Craft (mCrate) ‘drop-in’ electric propulsion system for boats under 35 feet. This Gen 3 design builds upon the company’s experience from the electric Nautique GS22E and Ingenity EL Dayboat. This system provides an option to boat builders considering an electric offering, without the need to build a system from scratch. The user interface is customizable to a boat builder’s branding.

Some of the reported specifications include:

  • Power ranging from 100 - 400 kW

  • Battery capacities from 63 - 189 kWh

  • State-of-the-art thermal management

  • Single or twin configurations supported (sterndrive, Vdrive, or straight shaft drive)

  • Fast charging in as little as one hour

This system, based on Ingenity's experience with previous award-winning projects, offers a scalable power range and customizable features, allowing boat builders to integrate electric propulsion without the need for custom drivetrain development. The mCrate supports various configurations and offers fast charging, real-time system data via an app, and remote support.

Marco Pimentel, host of the Someone Like You podcast, speaks with Arc Boats co-founder Mitch Lee. It is always interesting to hear the motivation for starting a newco and learn about plans for the future.

Mitch Lee mentions - paraphrasing- ‘For EVs - it’s the E that’s the hard part.’
