🌊 TAIGA RESTARTS ePWC PRODUCTION

Taiga Motors has re-opened its Montreal assembly line and has begun shipping the 2025 Orca electric personal watercraft (ePWC). The relaunch follows a restructuring period and a new alliance with marine-electrification partners Vita, Evoy, and Aqua SuperPower. Management says the factory can build up to 8,000 vehicles and powertrains per year, covering both watercraft and the company’s snowmobiles.

What updates were provided:

  • Automated battery and vehicle lines are live on schedule.

  • A redesigned liquid-cooling system lifts continuous battery output up to 65 percent in warm water.

  • Peak DC fast-charge rate has doubled, cutting Level 3 charge time to under 30 minutes.

Matthew Taylor, VP Operations, called the restart “a testament to the team and partners” and positioned Taiga as the only PWC still built in Canada.

The 2025 Orca delivers 120 kW (160 hp), reaches 104 km/h (65 mph), and runs for up to two hours on one charge. Level 2 charging takes 3.5 hours, while Level 3 fast charging needs less than 30 minutes. Buyers choose either a sheet-moulded composite Performance hull or a carbon-fiber Carbon hull and can fit a J1772 or CCS1 connector.

Taiga plans a gradual production ramp through summer, then will shift part of the line to its Nomad electric snowmobile in the fall. Dealers report that early Orca allocations are already spoken for, suggesting strong demand among fleet operators and private buyers focused on zero-emission recreation.

⚙️ELECTRIFIED POLICE BOAT

ABCO Industries of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, last year, electrified a former 32-foot aluminum police patrol vessel, repurposing it with a 300 kW (400 hp) continuous Evoy Hurricane inboard motor system capable of 600 kW (800 hp) peak output . The vessel operates on twin 63 kWh batteries, delivers a top speed of 38 knots, and completes 80 percent charge in about 1.5 hours. It supports vessel-to-grid (V2G) charging, enabling bidirectional energy transfer to and from the grid .

ABCO began in 1947 as Atlantic Bridge Company, building aluminum and stainless-steel equipment and boats. Today the shipyard fabricates welded aluminum boats from 16 to 65 feet in length and includes 3D modeling in its 26,000 ft² facility. The current electric vessel is part of its expansion into marine electrification, developed in partnership with BlueGrid and Evoy.

The refitted boat cruises quietly, emits no exhaust, and demonstrates that legacy aluminum vessels can be repurposed with zero-emission, high-performance drivetrains and smart grid integration. The project signals ABCO’s shift toward innovative decarbonization while maintaining rugged functionality.
