🌊 RE-CAP FROM THE TORONTO INT’L BOAT SHOW
The Toronto International Boat Show highlighted a range of electric propulsion systems and boats, underscoring the growing industry shift toward sustainable marine technology. Here’s a recap of the key electric products featured at the event.
Electric Outboard Motors
Tohatsu showcased its prototype 4.0kW electric outboard, designed to deliver acceleration comparable to their 8hp four-stroke model. This motor is expected to be available in 2025, offering options for tiller or remote steering and various shaft lengths to accommodate different boat types. Link.

Vision Marine Technologies featured their E-Motion™ 180E electric outboard . This offering emphasizes the potential for high-performance electric boating and demonstrates the growing viability of electric propulsion in larger vessels. Link.
Torqeedo, a pioneer in electric marine propulsion, showcased its latest lineup of electric outboards. These motors cater to a variety of boating needs, from small dinghies to commercial vessels. Torqeedo’s advanced battery technology, integrated GPS, and high efficiency make them a leading choice for eco-conscious boaters seeking reliable and powerful electric propulsion. Link.
Mercury Marine presented its Avator series of electric outboard motors, ranging from the 7.5e to the 110e. The Avator 7.5e is designed for small fishing boats and inflatables, while the Avator 20e and 35e offer increased power with modular battery options for extended range. The Avator 75e and 110e, Mercury’s most powerful electric outboards to date, are capable of propelling pontoon boats, small runabouts, and fishing boats with all-electric efficiency. Link.
Wolong Electric Group showcased their Flowstar series of electric outboard motors, including models with power outputs of 1kW and 1.5kW. These motors are designed for small watercraft, offering features such as high efficiency, low noise, and maintenance-free operation. The Flowstar 1.5kW model operates at a rated voltage of 48V and achieves a propeller speed of 1800 RPM. It is compatible with lithium batteries and offers both tiller and remote control options. In addition to the Flowstar series, Wolong also offers the Explorer 6kW electric outboard motor, which provides higher power suitable for larger small vessels. This model features a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), operates at a rated voltage of 48V, and reaches a propeller speed of 1500 RPM. It comes with both tiller and remote control options, as well as intelligent interaction capabilities through Bluetooth, GPS, and NB connectivity.

Parsun displayed the Joy 6.0, an electric outboard motor designed to provide an efficient and lightweight propulsion option for small boats. With a 6kW power rating, it offers a practical alternative to traditional combustion outboards, targeting recreational boaters seeking a quieter, eco-friendly solution. Link.

ePropulsion displayed its latest electric outboard lineup, including the Spirit 1.0 Plus, Navy Series, and Evo Series motors. These outboards cater to a range of boating needs, from small tenders to larger vessels requiring higher power outputs. With integrated battery options, regenerative charging capabilities, and remote-control configurations, ePropulsion continues to expand its influence in the electric propulsion market. Link.
Innovative Electric Boats
Vision Marine also showcased the Fantail 217, a boat constructed entirely from blow-molded plastic. This design prioritizes durability and environmental sustainability, aligning with the company's commitment to eco-friendly boating solutions. Link.
Vision Marine additionally presented the Volt 180, an electric-powered performance boat designed to deliver high speeds with zero emissions. Featuring a sleek, modern design and an advanced battery system, the Volt 180 appeals to boating enthusiasts looking for power without the environmental footprint of traditional combustion engines. Hillco eMarine presented their CedarCraft Vintage Electric Cruiser, an 18-foot handcrafted wooden boat made from Western cedar strip planking and oak ribbing. The vessel is powered by a Torqeedo 6 kW (9.9 hp equivalent) electric outboard, providing up to 14 hours of cruising at 5 knots. The boat includes modern amenities such as an electric bilge pump, running lights, and a USB charger, blending classic craftsmanship with modern electric propulsion. Link.

Electric Inflatable Houseboat
One of the most popular attractions among children at the show was the Crabs DS inflatable houseboat. Equipped with an electric motor, this unique vessel combines the fun of an inflatable with the convenience of electric propulsion. Its lightweight structure and easy maneuverability make it a great option for families looking for an accessible and eco-friendly way to enjoy time on the water. The houseboat's playful design and practical features drew significant attention, particularly from younger attendees eager to explore electric boating.

Electric Foils and Surfboards
The event also featured demonstrations of electric foils or electric surf boards, including models from Fliteboard and E-Surf, highlighting advancements in personal electric watercraft.
