🏁 RACING
The first E1 Series electric boat race, marking the inaugural season of the world's first electric boat racing league, took place over the weekend in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This groundbreaking event saw eight teams competing in cutting-edge electric boats across the Red Sea. The event structure consisted of qualifying races on Friday to determine pole positions for the semi-finals, followed by a series of knockout heats leading to the finale on Saturday. Each team was required to have a mixed-gender lineup, ensuring equal opportunities within the sport.
Team Brady, owned by former NFL quarterback Tom Brady, emerged victorious in this historic race - earning 20 team points. Racers Emma Kimilainen and Sam Coleman secured the win for Team Brady, with Team Miami, owned by singer Marc Anthony, and Team Rafa, owned by tennis player Rafael Nadal, finishing second and third, respectively. The event highlighted not only the competitive spirit of the teams but also the potential of electric boat racing as a sustainable and exciting new motorsport.
The E1 Series aims to drive technological innovation and promote sustainable transport through exciting and environmentally friendly competition. The races are broadcast globally, reaching a wide audience and showcasing the thrilling potential of electric motorsports. With support from partners like Mercury Racing, SIMRAD, and the Public Investment Fund, the E1 Series is set to revolutionize marine mobility and highlight the importance of sustainability in sports.
Race 2 is scheduled for May 12, 2024 in Venice, Italy.
