⚓️ PWC

Back in 2023, Tarform posted some information on a concept electric PWC - we’ll keep following to see if this moves into to production.

Tarform, a pioneer in electric vehicles, is setting new benchmarks in the realm of sustainable transportation with the introduction of their latest venture, the Tarform Raye—an all-electric watercraft inspired by nature itself. Building on the success of their bespoke Tarform Luna motorcycle, the company is venturing into aquatic vehicles, carrying forward its philosophy of combining cutting-edge technology with environmental stewardship.

The design of the Tarform Raye (again at the concept stage) draws its inspiration from the manta ray, a creature known for its intelligence and ethereal presence in the ocean. Mirroring the manta ray's propulsive efficiency and graceful movements, the Raye aims to replicate these qualities on water, offering a seamless blend of aesthetics and functionality. The biomorphic design not only makes the Raye visually striking but also ensures it moves through water with minimal resistance, emulating the effortless glide of its marine muse.

The Tarform Raye is envisioned to be more than just a watercraft; it is a testament to the possibilities of sustainable innovation. It incorporates plant-based materials and recycled carbon fiber in its construction, reducing its environmental impact without compromising on durability or style. This approach is aligned with Tarform’s commitment to sustainability, which is evident across its product lines.

The Raye is equipped with cutting-edge technology borrowed from its predecessor, the Luna motorcycle. Features such as over-the-air updates, machine learning, and advanced sensor technology enhance its functionality, making it not only a watercraft but a smart, connected vehicle capable of adapting to its rider's needs. These features ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience, similar to riding a high-performance electric motorcycle—but on water.

Promising to deliver exhilarating performance, the Raye targets a top speed of around 50 mph with instant torque provided by its electric waterjet propulsion system. Prospective owners can choose from two different power and range configurations, catering to varying needs and preferences. The customization options extend to its power output, ranging from 70 to 120 hp, and operational range between one to two hours, making it versatile for different types of aquatic adventures.

🛝 RACING

The E1 Series boat race in Venice provided a dynamic and thrilling showcase of electric powerboat racing, featuring intense competition among high-profile teams led by celebrities like Didier Drogba and Tom Brady. The race highlighted the innovative RaceBird boats designed for high-speed, emission-free racing. Throughout the event, teams participated in various heats, leading to semi-finals and finals, emphasizing both the speed and strategic maneuvers required to excel in these races.

The race was interesting to watch. Pilots (male and female that race alternating) use a combination of speed, finesse, and strategy for this race series. The boats have a power boost feature. This provides a temporary increase in speed, that is subject to a cool down period before being usable again. The other factor is porpoising. Significant speed is lost if the boat (called Race Birds) come off the hydrofoils unintentionally.

Team Brady, with pilots Emma Kimlan and Sam Coleman, demonstrated exceptional skill, navigating the challenging course to secure key victories. Their performance underscored the competitive nature of the E1 Series, which combines sportsmanship with advanced technology in marine racing.

The event in Venice not only highlighted the advancements in electric boat technology but also emphasized the E1 Series' commitment to sustainability and gender equality in sports. The races took place against the picturesque backdrop of Venice's waterways, adding a unique charm to the high-octane competition. The series continues to attract significant attention for its innovative approach to marine sports and its ability to integrate environmental consciousness with thrilling sports action.
