🛝 RECREATIONAL

Blue Innovations Group revealed plans to launch their 30-foot flagship model, the R30, at a launch event held in Florida on December 16, 2023 - opening up reservations for this boat.

The Revolution R30 is a 30 foot boat with a targeted maximum speed of 45 mph and a targeted nominal runtime of 8 hours. The design will include a solar canopy, to help extend range. The battery pack is slated to be 221 kWh. The dual motor powertrain will generate 800 hp.

The boat features fold down stern side hulls to create a terrace space, that includes a kitchenette. The cabin amenities include a bathroom with a sink and bidet, ample storage, an interactive display, and a safe box. Capacity will be 12 persons.

The brochure for this boat provides the following positioning “Experience the freedom of the open water with a quiet and emission-free ride. You can explore new depths, cast a line for fishing, or enjoy a romantic sunset. The R30 embodies what boating should be.”

The co-founder and CEO of Blue Innovations Group, John Vo (formerly at Tesla), was interviewed during the launch. He talked about sustainability, solar panels, an on-board karaoke machine and more. Vision Marine Technologies, maker of the E-Motion Powertrain electric outboard motor system, shares some interesting information in its latest corporate presentation (here). This deck mentions the potential market for EV Boats in the range of $15.5B. They mention the ‘Tesla’ effect - with consumers seeking electric alternatives for the waterways. The slides also cover the market size for outboards and electric boat rentals.

🛝 RECREATIONAL

BMW Group and TYDE (based in Germany) collaborate on a new electric luxury yacht.

Some of the features mentioned about this yacht (14.8 meters in length and 4.5 meters in width) include:

  • Achieving an 80% energy savings via hydrofoiling (drag reduction)

  • Full-surface solar roof

  • Battery capacity 400 kWh with dual 100 kW motors

  • 50 nm range at cruise speed (max. speed 30 knots)
